My Story
Hi, I’m Nellie Huang — a travel writer, book author, serial expat and fun mum.
For as long as I can remember, travel has been a big part of my life. The day I graduated with a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, I packed my bags and took off on an open-ended journey around the world. In 2008, I started a travel blog, WildJunket.com, to document my travels around Africa, Asia, and South America. I had no idea it would lead me to a career in travel writing and to a life of adventures.
Fast forward to today, I’ve had the privilege of traveling to over 140 countries across all seven continents. I have gone on assignments to many incredible places including Antarctica, Greenland, North Korea, Bhutan, and Papua New Guinea.
These days, I am a regular contributor for several major international publications. I co-authored Lonely Planet’s Mexico guidebook (2023) and wrote the chapters on Chiapas, Veracruz and Northern Mexico. I am also the proud author of Explorers, a non-fiction storybook for children that tells the amazing tales of the world’s greatest adventurers.
Why Mexico?
Born and raised in Singapore, I consider myself a global citizen who thrives in multi-cultural environments. I’ve lived in many parts of the world: including the US, UK, Spain and the Netherlands.
In 2021, my husband and I embarked on a journey once again in search for a new place to settle with our 6-year-old daughter. We were looking for a place with tropical weather, proper infrastructure, good education for our kid and a large expat community — and Mexico’s Caribbean coast ticked all our boxes.
We are now absolutely smitten with our adopted home and cannot wait to explore the entire country! I started this Mexico Travel Blog, as a means to share everything I’ve learned about this vast and diverse nation: from its ancient pyramids to its biosphere reserves, colossal mountains to colonial cities.
