  • 🌍🐾 Having traveled to 150 countries, here are my pick of the best wildlife destinations in the world.

🐘 Tanzania — The Great Migration in the Serengeti is nature’s grandest show, while Ngorongoro Crater offers Big Five sightings in a breathtaking volcanic amphitheater.

🦍 Uganda — Trek into the misty jungles of Bwindi to lock eyes with a mountain gorilla. A rare, humbling experience that will stay with me forever.

🦁 South Africa — From penguins at Boulders Beach to cage diving with great white sharks in Gansbaai, and game drives in Kruger to spot the Big Five. Few places match this diversity.

🐒 Madagascar — Lemur paradise. From dancing sifakas to ring-tailed lemurs, this island is bursting with quirky, endemic wildlife you can’t find anywhere else.

🐧 Antarctica — Vast icy landscapes dotted with gentoo, chinstrap, and Adélie penguins. The silence, the glaciers, and the wildlife make it one of the most pristine places on Earth.

🐋 Mexico — Swim alongside gentle whale sharks in the Yucatán or witness massive humpbacks breaching off Baja California. It’s a marine life dream.

🦎 Galápagos Islands, Ecuador — A volcanic archipelago brimming with creatures found nowhere else: giant tortoises, marine iguanas, and blue-footed boobies. Here, wildlife is fearless, making every encounter feel surreal.

Which one is at the top of your wildlife bucket list? 🐾✨

  • 🦒 Are African safaris good for kids? Absolutely — with the right planning, they can be one of the most magical and educational trips your family ever takes.

But safaris aren’t your average trip, and knowing what to expect makes all the difference.

• Game drives are early & late — Most safaris start at sunrise or run at sunset for the best wildlife sightings. Expect 2 hours in private reserves, but drives in national parks can stretch to 4+ hours.

• Wildlife isn’t on a schedule — This isn’t like a zoo; animals appear when they choose. Sometimes that means long stretches of waiting, so patience is key (and snacks help!).

• Choose family-friendly guides — The right ranger can turn a lion sighting into a captivating story your child will remember forever.

• Age limits are common — Many lodges require kids to be 6+ for game drives, so check before booking.

• Keep little ones busy — Bring safari-themed activity books, kid-sized binoculars, and plenty of snacks to keep spirits high between sightings.

• Pack layers — Even in the warmest months, dawn and dusk can be surprisingly cold. Think jackets, hats, and a cozy blanket for the drive.

  • If you have a thing for unique stays, you need to save this for your next trip to South Africa! 🇿🇦

We just came back from a weekend stay at @melozhori and it was everything we imagined, and more.

Our Valley Pod is stunning in every way — its interior is plush and stylish, with plenty of room in the living and kitchen areas for pizza and wine nights. Its spacious outdoor deck opens out to valley views, with net hammocks for lazy afternoons and a steaming wood fired hot tub perfect for chilly evenings. 🏕️🥂🔥🛁

It has a dreamy setting enveloped in a grassy valley, in the sprawling Melozhori private game reserve. We awoke to see zebras and waterbucks from our deck, as we sat sipping hot chocolate with marshmallows. 🦓🦒🦌

Best of all, it’s reasonably priced at US$180/night (and includes a complimentary game drive) — since we brought our own wine and food, we didn’t spend on anything else but the stay itself. Excellent value for an incredible unique stay!

[Disclaimer: Our stay was not gifted, we paid for it ourselves. Just happy customers here!]

  • One of the reasons why we chose to base ourselves in South Africa for 6 months is the chance to see wildlife! 🦒🦏🦓

We’re spending a fantastic weekend in the game reserves just 2hours away from Cape Town. We didn’t have to drive far at all to be in the karoos (semi arid area unique to South Africa) and feel like we’re in a completely different world.

In just a weekend, we already spotted wildebeests, zebras and impalas 🦓 — some right from our eco pod’s deck @melozhori . We also saw 3 of the Big 5 at @aquilasafaris - buffalo, elephant, and rhino 🐘🐃🦏- and enjoyed some downtime @africamps making our own braai over the campfire. 🔥

I still can’t believe that we get to do this on weekends, in between work and school! Definitely feeling grateful and proud of ourselves for making the move to South Africa 🇿🇦 .

[PS We paid for the stays ourselves, none of the experiences was hosted. Just happy customers here. ]

👋🏻 Hi! I’m Nellie, a travel writer and I share all I’ve learned about digital nomad family travel here. If you have a thing for unique stays, you need to save this for your next trip to South Africa! 🇿🇦 We just came back from a weekend stay at @melozhori and it was everything we imagined, and more. 🏕️🥂🔥🛁 It has a dreamy setting enveloped in a grassy valley, in the sprawling Melozhori private game reserve. We awoke to see zebras and waterbucks from our deck, as we sat sipping hot chocolate with marshmallows. 🦓🦒🦌 Best of all, it’s reasonably priced at US$180/night (and includes a complimentary game drive) — since we brought our own wine and food, we didn’t spend on anything else but the stay itself. Excellent value for an incredible unique stay! [Disclaimer: Our stay was not gifted, we paid for it ourselves. Just happy customers here!] 👋🏻 Hi! One of the reasons why we chose to base ourselves in South Africa for 6 months is the chance to see wildlife! 🦒🦏🦓 We’re spending a fantastic weekend in the game reserves just 2hours away from Cape Town. 🔥 I still can’t believe that we get to do this on weekends, in between work and school! Definitely feeling grateful and proud of ourselves for making the move to South Africa 🇿🇦 . [PS We paid for the stays ourselves, none of the experiences was hosted. Just happy customers here. ] 👋🏻 Hi! I’m Nellie, a travel writer and I share all I’ve learned about digital nomad family travel here. How bittersweet it is to realize that by raising our daughter to love adventure, we’re teaching her to chase her own dreams someday. 🥹 Kaleya, we hope you fly far and reach high one day. Until then, we’ll always be right by your side. Where are my mamas who can relate? 💗 👋🏻 Hi! I’m Nellie, a travel writer and I share all I’ve learned about digital nomad family travel here.
