  • 🌴✨ We found paradise — and it’s called Nosy Iranja, Madagascar 🇲🇬.

We’ve here in northern Madagascar for some much-needed island time and Nosy Iranja has completely swept us off our feet.

Just a 1.5-hour boat ride from Nosy Be, this dreamlike island is actually two islands connected by a white sandbar that disappears at high tide and reappears at low tide 😍

Locals call it the “Turtle Island” 🐢 because sea turtles come ashore here to nest. The tiny islet is home to a small community who make a living from fishing and tourism.

Crystal-clear turquoise water, soft white sand, and barely a soul around… this is what remote island dreams are made of 🌊

  • We just spent the day exploring the island of Nosy Be, where we spotted some black lemurs, ring-tailed lemurs and crowned sifakas. It was an immersive science class learning about Madagascar’s wildlife and evolution. 👣

Madagascar is the only place in the world where you can find wild lemurs, with over 117 species inhabiting the country. It’s also home to a large proportion of the world’s chameleons, including the world’s smallest and biggest species. 🦎

Since breaking away from mainland Africa millions of years ago, Madagascar has gone its own evolutionary way. Now, over 90% of its plant and animal species found nowhere else on Earth. 🌍

  • 5 ways we turn travel moments into learning opportunities for our kid 📚🌍✈️

1️⃣ Let nature lead science lessons 🌿

When we’re watching wildlife, we ask our kid questions to get her thinking. Why is this animal only here? What’s unique about this ecosystem?

🐾 In Madagascar, spotting lemurs got us thinking about migration and evolution!

2️⃣ Turn currency exchange into math practice 💸

We teach our kid to calculate exchange rates, handle cash, and learn to pay for things. They learn much better with hands-on math.

🧠 Our kid loved figuring out how many souvenirs she could buy with €5 in the market!

3️⃣ Use local language — even just greetings and numbers 🗣️

We always learn a few useful phrases wherever we travel, like hello and thank you. It builds confidence and respect.

🗣️In China, Kaleya got to practice her Mandarin just by greeting people and ordering food.

4️⃣ Make history tangible through sites and stories 🏛️

Museums, monuments, even walking tours can bring history to life. We like to discuss the “why” behind events and people.

📚 Robben Island in South Africa sparked an incredible conversation about justice and leadership.

5️⃣ Use everyday differences to spark curiosity 🧭

Shorter daylight? Low/high tide? We try to turn observations into geography or science discussions.

❄️ In Finland, the winter night and Northern Lights had our kid asking questions about seasons.

💡You don’t need to “school” your kids on the road. Just invite them to wonder, ask, and connect. Learning happens everywhere.
