  • “Move. As far as you can, as much as you can.” — Anthony Bourdain

We travel with our daughter for this exact reason. 🌎

To show her that the world is full of stories. 📚

That every culture has something to teach. 👩‍🏫

That food is more than survival — it’s history, culture and love. ❤️

That connection often starts with a simple hello or a shared meal. 🥘

Because the goal isn’t to collect countries. 🎟️

It’s to raise a human who sees the value of connections and the power of perspective. ✨

That’s why we move. That’s why we travel as a family.

👋🏻 Hi! I’m Nellie, a travel writer and I share all I’ve learned about digital nomad family travel here. So glad you’re here! 🌏

  • Mexico has given us so much and I cannot be more grateful. All the amazing experiences, work opportunities, amazing friends… It’s a bittersweet feeling to pack up our lives and say goodbye to our friends here who have become family. 🥹

But it’s time to move on. We cannot wait to start this new chapter in Africa. We’ll be spending 3 months in South Africa before traveling around Madagascar, Malawi, Ethiopia and more! But I know we’ll be back in Mexico soon enough!

  • 15 years ago, my husband and I backpacked South America for 6 months, and Ecuador turned out to be our favorite country in the continent. 🇪🇨✨

The country may be small, but it packs a punch with so many bucket-list worthy sights — from the Andes Mountains to the Amazon Rainforest and the spectacular Galapagos Islands.

We recently returned to Ecuador for our daughter’s birthday trip and it was just as spectacular and impressive as we remembered. It didn’t come as a surprise that Kaleya loved it as much as we did.

✅ Our 2-week family itinerary included:

🏙 3 days in Quito — colonial charm + the Middle of the World
🌲2 days in Otavalo — one of the largest artisan markets in South America
🌋 2 days in Cotopaxi — hiking and wild horses at altitude
✈️ Fly to the Galapagos Islands
🐢 3 days on Santa Cruz island — giant tortoises, swimming iguanas, unique wildlife everywhere
🦭3 days on San Cristobal island — sealions, blue-footed boobies, empty beaches

Every day was an adventure, and every stop taught our kid (and us!) something new — about the planet, about people, and about how to live a little more curiously.

Have Ecuador on your list with little ones? It’s wildly worth it. 🌎💚

Comment ECUADOR and I’ll send you the link to my free Ecuador itinerary with all the details on where to stay, eat and play. 🇪🇨

  • What I’m teaching my daughter through travel…

That experiences shape us more deeply than things ever will. 🪂

That adventure can teach us to manage our fears. 🏔️

That minimalism creates space for joy, unlike materialism, which clutters our minds. ✨

That time outdoors heals and grounds us more than screen time ever will. 🛝

That family is our first community—and worth showing up for.👧🏻

And that keeping an open mind is one of the greatest tools we can take on the road, especially in a world that too often chooses intolerance. 🌎

This is why we travel. This is what I hope stays with her, long after the passport stamps fade. 🌍💛🗺️

  • If life gets too stressful, move to the beach! When we lived by the beach in Playa del Carmen, we felt like we were always on vacation. 🏝️🥥👙

Yes we worked and Kaleya went to school, but we’d spent afternoons at the beach, lunch breaks at cute cafes and evenings strolling downtown. Kaleya’s after-school activities were surfing or marine biology classes on the beach. Weekends were always filled with fun days at the cenote or roadtrips around the Yucatan Peninsula.

Life wasn’t perfect (when is it ever?!) — the Caribbean coast of Mexico can be touristy, we felt like we weren’t getting to know the real Mexico etc — but for awhile it felt like a long, dreamy vacation!

And we’re so glad we got to experience it with Kaleya!

  • My daughter loves to read — she’s always holding a book and she has more books than toys at home — so when @dkbooks commissioned me to write a kids’ book, it was a dream come true.

I’ve now written/co-authored six books (hopefully more to come) and EXPLORERS is still the one I’m most proud of! It’s a beautifully illustrated book about the world’s greatest explorers: from Ferdinand Magellan to Barbara Hillary. Suitable for kids aged 7-10.

Comment EXPLORERS and I’ll send you a link to it. ;)

  • After 4 years of living in Mexico 🇲🇽 , these are the most underrated places we’ve discovered — and trust me, they’re worth the detour:

🏔️Copper Canyon, Chihuahua — Mountains hikes, stone valleys and a spectacular canyon-rim train journey.

🦋 Sierra Chincua, Michoacan — Home to the annual monarch butterfly migration.

🌿 Huasteca Potosina – Waterfalls, turquoise rivers & jungle magic.

🌋 Cañon de Sumidero, Chiapas – Stunning canyon, waterfalls, indigenous villages and epic nature with hardly any crowds.

🌲 Valle de Bravo – A lakeside town in the mountains that feels like a Mexican Switzerland.

💎 Laguna Bacalar – The “Lake of Seven Colors” that feels like the Maldives.

Mexico is full of hidden gems — if you look beyond the resorts. Which one are you adding to your list?👇

  • A sneak peek of our daily life in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico 🇲🇽!

Our life isn’t all road trips, beach days and mountain hikes. In reality, we work, exercise, do after-school activities, and have a routine like everyone else. 💻

It’s pretty fun to do daily life in Mexico though! We do more activities and eat out more than we used to in Europe (don’t let the video fool you — we eat lots of street food and Mexican grub too!) and we meet up with friends more often here too. 🌮🇲🇽

As much as we like going on adventures, we also enjoy having a home base with community and friendships to make life so much more meaningful. ❤️

We’re changing our home base in a month’s time and it’s gonna be tough to leave Mexico but I’m 100% sure we’ll be back soon!
