  • Ever ridden a wooden sled down the side of an ACTIVE VOLCANO? 🤯

📍Cerro Negro, Nicaragua 🇳🇮

The views, the speed, the black volcanic ash everywhere – a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience!

It starts with a 45-min hike up the active volcano, then you put on your minion suit, ski mask, hop on your wooden sled, and OFF YOU GO!

You can choose how fast you wanna go. Anyone can do this. I’m definitely bringing my daughter next time! 🏂🌋

  • Having traveled to 150 countries, here are the most underrated places in my opinion.(most of which you wont find many tourists)

Antarctica 🇦🇶

Any trip to Antarctica is an adventure, and you feel like you’ve traveled to the frontier. From the moment we crossed the Drake Passage into the Antarctic waters, we were surrounded by mammoth icebergs, glaciers, pods of whales, and thousands of penguins.

Georgia 🇬🇪

Tucked in the Caucasus region, Georgia is a spectacular yet under-visited destination. Tbilisi’s cobbled streets, Kakheti’s wineries and the snowcapped peaks of Kazbegi all combine to make this one of the most unique countries.

Madagascar 🇲🇬

La Grand Île is like nowhere else on Earth: it is home to over 70 species of lemurs, 346 species of reptiles and over 6,000 species of plants. Alberto and I went to Madagascar for our honeymoon and we absolutely fell in love with this unique country.

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador 🇪🇨

Endemic wildlife roam freely around the Galapagos Islands and best of all, they aren’t the least bit afraid of human beings – we saw sea lions at the market of Santa Cruz, penguins swimming around us, and blue-footed booby flying overhead.

Bhutan 🇧🇹

In the week that I spent in Bhutan (in 2013), the country floored me with its extraordinary Himalayan landscapes. Not to mention its impressive dzongs (fortresses), solemn monasteries and multi-layered, traditional culture.

Papua New Guinea 🇬🇳

I traveled Papua New Guinea quite awhile ago, but I’ll never forget its staggering natural beauty and rich ancestral tradition. Jungle-cloaked highlands echo with the rhythmic chants of sing-sings and the striking Huli Wigmen perform in vivid feathered headdresses.

Svalbard, Norway 🇳🇴

This is one of the world’s last wildernesses. The Svalbard archipelago is home to more polar bears than human beings. Sailing around the icebergs and glaciers, we would see whales, seals, Arctic fox, and belugas on a daily basis.

  • Our recent stay at @habitassanmiguel was nothing short of amazing. 🇲🇽

🛖 60 individual rooms perched on a gentle hill in Valle de los Senderos, the property is designed to blend in with the surrounding natural environment. Each of the room features earth-inspired interiors and lots of deck space to enjoy the view.

🌵We love that it’s located in the countryside (still just 10 minutes from the historic center), surrounded by sweeping views of endemic trees, towering cacti and colorful wildflowers. It invites you to slow down and immerse in the surroundings.

🧘 With a focus on wellness and nature, the hotel organizes several activities for all guests, with no extra charge: such as yoga every morning, paint and sip in the evenings, entry to the nearby La Playita beach club and transfers to the city center.

🫜 Their farm-to-table restaurant, Comunidad, was outstanding. Every single meal was decadent, prepared with fresh local ingredients and love. I’d even dare say it’s the best restaurant in San Miguel de Allende of all the places we’ve tried.

🐶It’s also kid and pet-friendly — Kaleya had her own extra bed, kids’ menu, lots of books and boardgames around to keep her happy, and our dog Brownie was spoiled silly with a big dog bed and lots of treats.

🍷We were invited to experience their Countryside Culinary Journey package — that includes a hot air balloon ride, cooking class with their chef, wine and charcuterie in the room and a 4-course gourmet dinner.

The hotel is part of the @dis_loyalty travel and food membership that gives access to up to 50% off stays across 10 iconic brands - with 100+ hotels and 180+ restaurants around the world.

⚠️Psst… Comment HABITAS and I’ll send you a link to the Countryside Culinary Journey program.

  • One of the things we love about San Miguel de Allende 🇲🇽 is the nature surrounding it. San Miguel may be a small town, but there’s plenty a lot to do in the surroundings to keep our life exciting!

We just had a fantastic weekend staying at @habitassanmiguel on their Countryside Culinary Journey experience. In just 3 days, we felt like we’d experienced so much of our own backyard, and they were all experiences that were new to us. Here’s what we did:

🪂 hot air ballooning over San Miguel
🏝️ SUP and swimming at La Playita
🥘 a cooking class with their chef
🍷 wine and charcuterie served in room
🎨 a sip and paint class
🍽️ 4-course gourmet dinner at their restaurant, Comunidad
🧘 a cleansing ritual and meditation

If you’re coming to San Miguel de Allende, I highly recommend staying at @our_habitas. The hotel is just 10minutes from town and yet you feel immersed in nature. Activities like yoga and paint and sip are free for all guests. The food here is incredible, possibly the best we’ve had in San Miguel.

[Our experience was hosted by Habitas.]

  • Here’s what I often forget: You don’t have to go far to have an adventure. ⛰️🌲👣

I get caught up planning epic journeys in far flung places, thinking I need to go far to feel inspired.

But the truth is some of the best moments we spend with our families don’t require a plane ticket. ✈️

It could be a simple excursion out to the countryside and local adventures right in your backyard. 🌿🗺️🧭🎒

This weekend, we’ve joined @habitassanmiguel on their Countryside Culinary Journey right where we live, in San Miguel de Allende. 🇲🇽

The experience includes a hot air balloon ride over San Miguel, a private cooking class with their in-house chef, a wine and paint class and an amazing 4-course gourmet dinner at their restaurant, Comunidad.

We’re very excited to be collaborating with @our_habitas for this local adventure as we love their philosophy. They emphasize on luxury for the soul, seeking connection and inspiration from our natural environment and building a better future together. 🌿🌳🌎♻️💧

[This weekend adventure is a hosted stay/experience.]

  • San Miguel de Allende 🇲🇽 was voted #1 in the World’s Best City Awards by Travel + Leisure’s readers in their 2024 survey. And we’re here for it!

It’s been 1.5 years since we moved to San Miguel de Allende and it’s been a dream.✨ The colorful city has thriving art and food scenes, but feels like a small town. There’s so much history and culture here and we’ve gotten to know Mexican culture better by being here.

We love our community here and it feels like home for us. As we get ready for our upcoming move to South Africa, I’m feeling a bag of emotions — it’s gonna be hard to leave this beautiful place!

  • Everyone goes to Mexico 🇲🇽… but have you looked just next door? 👀🇧🇿

Belize is an underrated travel destination — especially for families traveling with kids!

It’s packed with wild nature, fascinating history, and super cool adventures that feel straight out of a storybook. Plus it’s untouristy, its beaches are pristine and empty, and locals are incredibly welcoming.

🦎 Visit the Green Iguana Conservation Project in San Ignacio
🏛️ Climb ancient Maya ruins like Xunantunich
🛶 Go cave tubing through an underground river at Nohoch Che’en
🐠 Snorkel with rays + tropical fish at Hol Chan
🌿 Spot howler monkeys in the jungle canopy of the Community Baboon Sanctuary

It’s warm year round, easy to explore, and full of hands-on learning that kids will actually be excited about. ✨

P.S Did you know Belize is the only English-speaking country in Central America?

📌Save this miniguide for your next trip to Belize!

  • 💫Watch to the end to see how fast kids grow!

I’ve been bringing Kaleya on mother-daughter trips since she was 1 year old.

We’ve been on an island escape in Thailand, a road trip in Morocco, a transatlantic cruise from the Caribbean to Spain, a summer break in Greece, and most recently, a week-long trip to Cuba.

There’s something truly special about getting away — just the two of us. These 1-on-1 adventures have given us time to really connect and some of our most special memories together. 💛

Because one day, she’ll remember not what I bought her — but the places we went, the laughter we shared, and how she had me all to herself. 🌍✨

Having traveled to 150 countries, here are the most underrated places in my opinion.(most of which you wont find many tourists) Antarctica 🇦🇶 Any trip to Antarctica is an adventure, and you feel like you’ve traveled to the frontier. From the moment we crossed the Drake Passage into the Antarctic waters, we were surrounded by mammoth icebergs, glaciers, pods of whales, and thousands of penguins. Georgia 🇬🇪 Tucked in the Caucasus region, Georgia is a spectacular yet under-visited destination. Tbilisi’s cobbled streets, Kakheti’s wineries and the snowcapped peaks of Kazbegi all combine to make this one of the most unique countries. Madagascar 🇲🇬 La Grand Île is like nowhere else on Earth: it is home to over 70 species of lemurs, 346 species of reptiles and over 6,000 species of plants. Alberto and I went to Madagascar for our honeymoon and we absolutely fell in love with this unique country. Galapagos Islands, Ecuador 🇪🇨 Endemic wildlife roam freely around the Galapagos Islands and best of all, they aren’t the least bit afraid of human beings – we saw sea lions at the market of Santa Cruz, penguins swimming around us, and blue-footed booby flying overhead. Our recent stay at @habitassanmiguel was nothing short of amazing. 🇲🇽 🛖 60 individual rooms perched on a gentle hill in Valle de los Senderos, the property is designed to blend in with the surrounding natural environment.
👋🏻 Hi! I’m Nellie, a travel writer and I share all I’ve learned about digital nomad family travel here. One of the things we love about San Miguel de Allende 🇲🇽 is the nature surrounding it. Here’s what we did: 🪂 hot air ballooning over San Miguel 🏝️ SUP and swimming at La Playita 🥘 a cooking class with their chef 🍷 wine and charcuterie served in room 🎨 a sip and paint class 🍽️ 4-course gourmet dinner at their restaurant, Comunidad 🧘 a cleansing ritual and meditation If you’re coming to San Miguel de Allende, I highly recommend staying at @our_habitas. The hotel is just 10minutes from town and yet you feel immersed in nature. Activities like yoga and paint and sip are free for all guests. The food here is incredible, possibly the best we’ve had in San Miguel. [Our experience was hosted by Habitas.] 👋🏻 Hi! Here’s what I often forget: You don’t have to go far to have an adventure. ⛰️🌲👣 I get caught up planning epic journeys in far flung places, thinking I need to go far to feel inspired. But the truth is some of the best moments we spend with our families don’t require a plane ticket. ✈️ It could be a simple excursion out to the countryside and local adventures right in your backyard. 🌿🗺️🧭🎒 This weekend, we’ve joined @habitassanmiguel on their Countryside Culinary Journey right where we live, in San Miguel de Allende. 🇲🇽 The experience includes a hot air balloon ride over San Miguel, a private cooking class with their in-house chef, a wine and paint class and an amazing 4-course gourmet dinner at their restaurant, Comunidad. We’re very excited to be collaborating with @our_habitas for this local adventure as we love their philosophy. They emphasize on luxury for the soul, seeking connection and inspiration from our natural environment and building a better future together. 🌿🌳🌎♻️💧 [This weekend adventure is a hosted stay/experience.] 👋🏻 Hi! San Miguel de Allende 🇲🇽 was voted #1 in the World’s Best City Awards by Travel + Leisure’s readers in their 2024 survey. 👋🏻 Hi! Everyone goes to Mexico 🇲🇽… but have you looked just next door?
🌿 Spot howler monkeys in the jungle canopy of the Community Baboon Sanctuary It’s warm year round, easy to explore, and full of hands-on learning that kids will actually be excited about. ✨ P.S Did you know Belize is the only English-speaking country in Central America?

💫Watch to the end to see how fast kids grow! 💛 Because one day, she’ll remember not what I bought her — but the places we went, the laughter we shared, and how she had me all to herself. 🌍✨ 👋🏻 Hi!
