  • South Africa is made for road trips — honestly, few places in the world can compare. 🚗🛣️

We’ve driven all over the country — including up north to Drakensberg, Kruger and Welgevonden. I can say this: the freedom and landscapes here are unmatched.

Every turn on the road feels like the scenery has changed completely — you go from ocean cliffs to farmlands to rugged mountains in what feels like minutes.

Here are some of the tips we’ve learned along the way:

🚗 Road Trip + Driving Tips

•South Africa drives on the left-hand side of the road, with the driver’s seat on the right side of the car — just like the UK and Australia.
• Roads especially in the Western Cape are of great condition and it’s relatively easy to drive.
• Stations can be far apart — always keep your tank at least half full when heading out of cities.
• Download offline maps (Signal can disappear exactly when you don’t want it to!).
• Avoid driving at night outside major cities — roads can be dark, winding, or have wildlife or pedestrians unexpectedly crossing.

🔒 Safety Tips We Personally Follow

• Don’t leave anything visible in the car — even jackets or shopping bags. We always lock things in the boot.
• When stopping at viewpoints or beaches, make sure the car is locked properly (even auto-locks sometimes need a double check).
• Keep windows up and doors locked in busy intersections.
• In cities, stick to secure parking lots or attended areas whenever possible.

If you’re planning a family road trip here: do it. Take your time, stay street smart, and soak in every moment. South Africa really is built for the open road. 🇿🇦✨

  • Week 2 in Cape Town was the perfect mix of learning, adventure, and community. 🇿🇦

Homeschool mornings went surprisingly well, we made new friends and had an awesome visit to the planetarium and museum. Our afternoons were packed with rock climbing, gymnastics, robotics, and even woodworking. 🪐🤖🪵🧗‍♀️

We squeezed in sunset beach yoga, a drum circle at a winery, a day out with worldschoolers, and our first-ever polo match — South Africa vs England! After a slow Sunday, we’re feeling grateful, grounded, and so excited to see what else Cape Town has in stall for us. ☀️💛🌿

Even as a digital nomad family, we still have work, school, and real-life stuff in between those dreamy travel moments 💻📚✨

But that balance is what makes the adventures worthwhile! 🌍💛
