As an expat living in Playa del Carmen, I've explored at least 20 cenotes and can safely say Cenote Jardin del Eden is my favorite cenote in the area. • Nothing compares to New York City at Christmastime.🗽🎄✨

The whole city feels like it’s humming: lights wrapped around every tree, windows dressed like fairytales, hot pretzels steaming in the cold, and music drifting from every corner. Kids don’t just see Christmas here… they feel it. So do we.

Here’s our guide to Christmas in NYC with kids:

THE CLASSICS 🗽🎄✨

• See the @Rockefellercenter Christmas Tree — best early morning or late at night
• Visit the Macy’s Santaland — book early; it’s pure childhood wonder
• Walk @fifthavenue holiday windows — Bergdorf’s is the most magical
• Ride the @centralparknyc Carousel surrounded by winter trees

MAGICAL EXPERIENCES FOR KIDS 🧤❄️🛷

* Ice skate at @BryantParkNYC Winter Village (less crowded + cheaper than Rockefeller)
• Visit the @theplazahotel — any kid who’s seen Home Alone will be excited to come here
• Hop on the @StatenIslandFerry for free views of the Statue of Liberty
• Explore the @amnh American Museum of Natural History — warm, huge, kid-heaven

CHRISTMAS-THEMED MUSTS 🎅🏼❤️

• Wander Dyker Heights Christmas lights in Brooklyn (THE neighborhood for decorations)
• Catch @therockettes Christmas Spectacular — iconic + surprisingly kid-friendly
• Sip hot chocolate at Jacques Torres or @serendipity3nyc
• Book a table at @rolfsny, the tiny German restaurant covered in ornaments

Bundle up, slow down when you can, let the chaos be part of the charm… and watch your kids’ eyes light up at every corner. 🎄✨

📌Save this for your next winter trip to the Big Apple!

  • Before having kids, we traveled the world, on 6-month long sojourns through South America, volunteering in East Africa and backpacking stints through Asia. I loved travel so much that I carved a career in travel writing and blogging — and since then I’ve traveled to 150 countries.

But having kids hasn’t stopped us from traveling. We are worldschooling our daughter now, showing her the world and teaching her practical life skills through travel and experience. She’s 10 and has traveled to 60 countries.

Follow along our journey as we explore the world with our little one and share tips on how to work remotely!🌎📚✈️

  • Homeschooling really isn’t as hard as people think. 🤔

I was worried about juggling work with homeschooling — but thanks to her online school, Kaleya is managing everything independently!

Kaleya is currently enrolled to a UK online school, @maevious_homeeducating, and she’s loving the freedom of learning at her own pace, in the comfort of our home. 📚

She gets to join live, interactive video classes everyday and gets real 1:1 attention. She’s also diving into subjects she’d never tried before — geography, biology, chemistry and history — and even discovered her love for coding through computing classes. 🧪🧬💻

As she’s more advanced than her peers, they’ve even allowed her to skip a grade and now she’s doing Grade 6/7 (instead of 5) Math, English and Science.

Besides Maevious, Kaleya also does online Chinese classes with a Mandarin teacher.

The rest of the time, she does plenty of fun activities like gymnastics, rock climbing, marine biology, robotics and woodworking. We visit museums, see friends and often try new things like surfing. 🏄🏻

*Comment HOMESCHOOL and I’ll send you the link to Maevious packages. If you’re interested in trying Maevious, feel free to use code: WILDJUNKET10 for 10% off your first month 🙌🏼

  • If you’d told me 20 years ago that I would be getting paid to travel the world and write about it, I wouldn’t have believed you. ✍️✈️🧳

It still feels surreal sometimes. I didn’t grow up thinking I’ll have this dream job one day. In fact, I studied engineering as it was the safest bet find a job and earn a living.

In 2008, I started my adventure travel blog (wildjunket.com) with zero clue what I was doing. I spent every minute of my free time learning everything from SEO to pitching publications. It took almost a year before the first few cents from ads and affiliate links came in — but I felt like I’d won the lottery.

From there, I started working towards my real goal: freelance writing for travel publications and guidebook companies. I pitched all the pubs I knew, from small Singaporean magazines to international travel sites. There were many rejections at first, but slowly “no” turned into “yes”. 🙌🏽

Over time, my blog grew and my writing portfolio expanded. After 2 years of hard work, this became my full-time job. My blog was generating passive income through display ads, sponsored content and affiliates, while I was getting paid by publishers for my contributions.

Now, I write guidebooks for @lonelyplanet, print titles for @dkbooks and online articles for @telegraph and @bbc_travel. In addition to blogging and writing, I also lead tours, I book travel for clients, and do consultancy work for travel brands.

But if writing isn’t your thing, that’s okay — there are so many ways to earn online now that didn’t even exist when I started. If you’re curious about digital nomad jobs, blogging, or making money online in general, drop your questions. I’m always happy to share what’s worked (and what hasn’t). 💻✨

Homeschooling really isn’t as hard as people think. 🤔 I was worried about juggling work with homeschooling — but thanks to her online school, Kaleya is managing everything independently! From there, I started working towards my real goal: freelance writing for travel publications and guidebook companies. I pitched all the pubs I knew, from small Singaporean magazines to international travel sites. There were many rejections at first, but slowly “no” turned into “yes”. 🙌🏽 Over time, my blog grew and my writing portfolio expanded. 💻✨ 👋 Hi! 20 years ago, if you’d told me I would be getting paid to travel the world and write about it, I wouldn’t have believed you. ✍️✈️🧳 It still feels surreal sometimes. I didn’t grow up thinking I’ll have this dream job one day. In fact, I studied engineering since it was the easiest way to find a job and make money. 🙌🏽 Over time, my blog grew and my writing portfolio expanded. After 2 years of hard work, this became my full-time job. My blog was making sufficient income thrice display ads, sponsored content and affiliates, while I was getting paid by publishers for my contributions. Now, I write guidebooks for @lonelyplanet, print titles for @dkbooks and online articles for @telegraph and @bbctravel. In addition to blogging and writing, I also lead tours, I book travels for clients, and do consultancy work for travel brands.
