  • One of my favorite things about traveling with kids is choosing places that become part of the experience— not just somewhere to sleep.

Swipe through for some of our most unforgettable stays 👇

❄️ @ArcticSnowHotel – Rovaniemi, Finland
Sleeping in an ice room, wrapped in thermal sleeping bags, chasing northern lights, and meeting Santa nearby — a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

🐚 Casa Caracol – Isla Mujeres, Mexico
Set against the Caribbean Sea, this quirky shellhouse is designed for modern-day mermaids looking for something different. I booked this place for my 40th birthday and had a blast enjoying island time with my family.

🌲 @Treehotel – Harads, Sweden
Suspended in the forest are a series of treehouses reached by ladders and bridges. We stayed in the UFO shuttle but there’s also the glass house and nest. Nature, imagination, and adventure rolled into one.

🌿 @Tapasoli – Xilitla, Mexico
Sleeping in hobbit-style burrows tucked into the jungle overlooking the valley transported us to Hobbiton. 🌳✨ This is one of those places where imagination runs wild.

🎭 Muralla Roja – Calpe, Spain
Playful, bold, and totally unexpected. Staying at this Squid Game apartment made our time in Calpe extra memorable — my kid LOVES when accommodations feel like an experience.

🏔️ Yurt camp — Issyk Kul, Kyrgyzstan
Sleeping on the floor, learning about nomadic life, and waking up to mountain views. One of the most grounding experiences you can have as a family.

⛺ @CampingPehoe — Torres del Paine, Chile
Wild landscapes, cozy beds, and fires under the stars. Proof that adventure and comfort can coexist — even in remote Patagonia.

♨️ @Hakonetenyu Ryokan Hotel – Hakone, Japan
Tatami mats, futons, onsen baths, and the calmest atmosphere imaginable. A beautiful introduction to Japanese culture and mindful living — even with kids.

Which one would your kids choose? 💭✨

  • Of all the German Christmas markets we’ve been, the Cologne one is our absolute favorite! Set against the backdrop of the iconic cathedral, it’s got something special that makes the festive season feel particularly magical.✨

Twinkling lights reflect off wooden chalets, church bells echo through the square, and the air is filled with the scent of cinnamon, roasted chestnuts, and warm Glühwein. It’s lively, cozy, and unmistakably Christmassy.

📅 When: Nov 25 – Dec 23, 2025
⏰ Hours: Daily from late morning until around 21:00 | Later on weekends

🎄 What makes it so special:

• The magical Cologne Cathedral market, with fairy lights stretching across the square and carols playing in the background ⛪✨

• Endless festive treats: Reibekuchen, sausages, chocolate-dipped fruits, and mugs of Glühwein to warm your hands 🍷

• Live music, choirs, and performances that fill the air with holiday cheer 🎶

• All kinds of gifts and German woodwork on sale. 🎁

✨ Don’t miss this: Wander between markets, collect a souvenir mug, and linger longer than planned. Cologne does Christmas big — and it’s impossible not to get swept up in the magic.

Save this reel for your festive Europe plans 🎄🤍

  • A winter road trip through Switzerland 🇨🇭

A few winters ago, we drove our campervan to Switzerland from the Netherlands and it felt like we’d arrived in Narnia! ❄️ Here is a mini guide for families seemingly winter fun:

🏔️ Grindelwald

We celebrated Christmas tucked away in a cozy wooden cabin 🪵✨, surrounded by snow-covered mountains 🏔️ and twinkling lights. Slow mornings with hot chocolate ☕️🍫, watching the snow fall outside the window, and that quiet alpine magic you only get in winter. ☃️

💧❄️ Lauterbrunnen

Frozen waterfalls 🧊💦, snow-dusted villages 🏘️❄️, and little train rides through a valley that feels straight out of a fairytale 📖✨ Every turn was a postcard 📸🤍

🚆🏔️ Wengen

A car-free mountain village you reach by train 🚞 — which already makes it feel special ✨ Snowy streets, wooden chalets 🪵, sledding hills right outside your door 🛷, and views over the Lauterbrunnen valley that don’t feel real 🤍🏔️

❄️⛰️ Glacier 3000

A true winter wonderland ☃️✨ Sledding 🛷, playing in real snow, and walking across the peak-to-peak suspension bridge 🌉 with endless white peaks all around.

✨ Save this for your winter family bucket list

  • I’m not saying you should book a Christmas trip to Milan, Italy 🇮🇹…but here’s why you might want to.

Best things to do in Milan at Christmas:

🎠 Wander the Christmas markets around Piazza Duomo, where festive stalls sit beneath the cathedral — and there’s a classic carousel ride that feels straight out of a storybook.

🎄Walk the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II dressed in full holiday sparkle.

⛸️ Go ice skating at Villaggio delle Meraviglie (Indro Montanelli Gardens), with a partly heated/covered area and outdoor ice.

☕ Warm up with hot chocolate or espresso in historic cafés

🕯️ Visit churches and midnight Mass if you’re there on Christmas Eve.

🍝 Indulge in seasonal Italian food — panettone hits different here.

❄️ Take an easy winter day trip to the Swiss Alps

Milan at Christmas isn’t loud or overdone.
It’s elegant, cozy, and made for slow wandering — the kind of trip that sneaks up on you and stays in your memory.

Would you come to Milan in December? ✨🇮🇹

  • All I want for Christmas… is not gifts. Not stuff.

Just my passport, a few plane tickets, and somewhere new to wake up ✈️🌍

Because travel is the one thing I never regret spending on — especially the kind that turns into family stories we tell for years.

2026 looks set to be a year of travel and I cannot wait!

☃️Tag your husband or best travel buddy… or the friend who’s been dreaming of traveling more with their kid🎄✨

One of my favorite things about traveling with kids is choosing places that become part of the experience— not just somewhere to sleep.

Of all the German Christmas markets we’ve been, the Cologne one is our absolute favorite!
⏰ Hours: Daily from late morning until around 21:00 | Later on weekends 🎄 What makes it so special:

• The magical Cologne Cathedral market, with fairy lights stretching across the square and carols playing in the background ⛪✨
• Endless festive treats: Reibekuchen, sausages, chocolate-dipped fruits, and mugs of Glühwein to warm your hands 🍷
• Live music, choirs, and performances that fill the air with holiday cheer 🎶
• All kinds of gifts and German woodwork on sale. 🎁 ✨ Don’t miss this: Wander between markets, collect a souvenir mug, and linger longer than planned. Cologne does Christmas big — and it’s impossible not to get swept up in the magic. Save this reel for your festive Europe plans 🎄🤍 👋Hi! I’m Nellie, a travel writer and adventurous mum. A winter road trip through Switzerland 🇨🇭 A few winters ago, we drove our campervan to Switzerland from the Netherlands and it felt like we’d arrived in Narnia! ❄️ Here is a mini guide for families seemingly winter fun: 🏔️ Grindelwald We celebrated Christmas tucked away in a cozy wooden cabin 🪵✨, surrounded by snow-covered mountains 🏔️ and twinkling lights. Slow mornings with hot chocolate ☕️🍫, watching the snow fall outside the window, and that quiet alpine magic you only get in winter. ☃️ 💧❄️ Lauterbrunnen Frozen waterfalls 🧊💦, snow-dusted villages 🏘️❄️, and little train rides through a valley that feels straight out of a fairytale 📖✨ Every turn was a postcard 📸🤍 🚆🏔️ Wengen A car-free mountain village you reach by train 🚞 — which already makes it feel special ✨ Snowy streets, wooden chalets 🪵, sledding hills right outside your door 🛷, and views over the Lauterbrunnen valley that don’t feel real 🤍🏔️ ❄️⛰️ Glacier 3000 A true winter wonderland ☃️✨ Sledding 🛷, playing in real snow, and walking across the peak-to-peak suspension bridge 🌉 with endless white peaks all around. ✨ Save this for your winter family bucket list 👋Hi! I’m not saying you should book a Christmas trip to Milan, Italy 🇮🇹…but here’s why you might want to. Best things to do in Milan at Christmas: 🎠 Wander the Christmas markets around Piazza Duomo, where festive stalls sit beneath the cathedral — and there’s a classic carousel ride that feels straight out of a storybook. 🎄Walk the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II dressed in full holiday sparkle. ⛸️ Go ice skating at Villaggio delle Meraviglie (Indro Montanelli Gardens), with a partly heated/covered area and outdoor ice. ☕ Warm up with hot chocolate or espresso in historic cafés 🕯️ Visit churches and midnight Mass if you’re there on Christmas Eve. 🍝 Indulge in seasonal Italian food — panettone hits different here. ❄️ Take an easy winter day trip to the Swiss Alps Milan at Christmas isn’t loud or overdone. It’s elegant, cozy, and made for slow wandering — the kind of trip that sneaks up on you and stays in your memory. Would you come to Milan in December? ✨🇮🇹 👋Hi! All I want for Christmas… is not gifts. Not stuff.
Just my passport, a few plane tickets, and somewhere new to wake up ✈️🌍
Because travel is the one thing I never regret spending on — especially the kind that turns into family stories we tell for years. 2026 looks set to be a year of travel and I cannot wait! ☃️Tag your husband or best travel buddy… or the friend who’s been dreaming of traveling more with their kid🎄✨ 👋Hi!
