  • If you’d told me 20 years ago that I would be getting paid to travel the world and write about it, I wouldn’t have believed you. ✍️✈️🧳

It still feels surreal sometimes. I didn’t grow up thinking I’ll have this dream job one day. In fact, I studied engineering as it was the safest bet find a job and earn a living.

In 2008, I started my adventure travel blog (wildjunket.com) with zero clue what I was doing. I spent every minute of my free time learning everything from SEO to pitching publications. It took almost a year before the first few cents from ads and affiliate links came in — but I felt like I’d won the lottery.

From there, I started working towards my real goal: freelance writing for travel publications and guidebook companies. I pitched all the pubs I knew, from small Singaporean magazines to international travel sites. There were many rejections at first, but slowly “no” turned into “yes”. 🙌🏽

Over time, my blog grew and my writing portfolio expanded. After 2 years of hard work, this became my full-time job. My blog was generating passive income through display ads, sponsored content and affiliates, while I was getting paid by publishers for my contributions.

Now, I write guidebooks for @lonelyplanet, print titles for @dkbooks and online articles for @telegraph and @bbc_travel. In addition to blogging and writing, I also lead tours, I book travel for clients, and do consultancy work for travel brands.

But if writing isn’t your thing, that’s okay — there are so many ways to earn online now that didn’t even exist when I started. If you’re curious about digital nomad jobs, blogging, or making money online in general, drop your questions. I’m always happy to share what’s worked (and what hasn’t). 💻✨

  • Finland in winter is truly magical — it makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale. ☃️❄️✨

Last winter, we spent Christmas in Finland 🇫🇮 and it was honestly the most magical trip we’ve done. Kaleya still talks about it fondly, and says it’s her favorite trip of all time. Here’s our guide:

ROVANIEMI — the capital of Christmas🎅🏼

• Meet Santa at @santaclausvillageofficial (touristy but irresistibly fun for kids)
• Take a gentle reindeer sleigh ride through quiet forests
• Stay at the @arcticsnowhotel or visit for the day
• Warm up at the Arktikum Museum, one of Lapland’s best
• Eat Lappish comfort food at @restaurantnili

LEVI — a perfect ski stop 🎿🏔️✨

• Try a short husky safari with @snowmobileparklevi
• Ride the Levi Summit gondola for panoramic snowy views
• Book an aurora tour with @safartica to hunt for the Northern Lights
• Try beginner-friendly snowshoeing or a family snowmobile tour
• Easy eats: Colorado Bar & Grill

HELSINKI — cozy cafés + winter city charm ❄️❤️

• Wander the Helsinki Christmas Market and sip glögi (mulled wine)
• Go ice skating at the huge outdoor rink, Oulunkylä
• Visit Oodi Library — one of Europe’s best for families
• Warm up at the Allas Sea Pool (yes, there’s a heated pool!)
• Grab hot chocolate + pastries at Café Regatta, a tiny red cabin by the sea

  • Cape Town Diaries – Week 5 🎄✨

December is finally here, which means advent calendars, summer sunshine, and all the festive fun Cape Town brings this time of year. We kicked off the week with a beach day with friends and a visit to the Christmas fair, where ice sliding turned out to be a huge hit.

The weekend surprised us too — a family hike that turned into a full-on geocaching adventure. Five hidden treasures later, hiking has suddenly become a lot more appealing. 😉

We wrapped up the week with a magical kayak trip in the (very!) icy Atlantic, spotting penguins and dolphins gliding right beside us.

Feeling grateful for another beautiful, adventure-filled week in the Mother City. 💛🌊✨

  • Yes worldschooling is about giving kids a better education and a fun, stress-free childhood… but it’s also about making the most of parenthood.

In the school system, childhood is measured in test scores and reports. For parents, it’s measured in rushed school runs, homework battles, and very little quality time. Everyday feels like a rush.

📚Worldschooling flips that script.

 🍳Slow mornings.

🍃Lessons woven naturally into everyday life.

📝Experiences that turn the world into a classroom.

Kids raised this way live differently. They grow up with more interest, deeper trust, and the belief that they can build their own future.

And parents? We finally have the chance to live parenthood fully, without feeling like we’re robbed of this precious time.

We live at a pace where we actually see our children…not only at weekends, not only when they’re overtired…but in everyday life! ⏱️

Yes worldschooling is about giving kids a better education and a fun, stress-free childhood… but it’s also about making the most of parenthood. ⏱️ 👋 Hi! I’m Nellie, a travel writer and adventurous mum. I share all I’ve learned about digital nomad family travel here. So glad you’re here! 🌏 #travelfamily #livingabroad #worldschooling #familytravel #learningeverywhere #travelwithkids #digitalnomadfamily #familytravel #worldschoolers #worldschoolingfamily
