  • One of the reasons why we chose South Africa as our home base is to TRAVEL and explore more of Africa! 🌍

I’ve climbed the sand dunes of Namibia, floated on the Okavango Delta in Botswana, trekked for hours to see gorillas 🦍 in Uganda, and seen the annual migration in the spectacular Serengeti and Ngorongoro… 🐘🦓🦒

And I CANNOT wait to experience them all with Kaleya! Africa was my favorite continent for the longest time (until Mexico stole my heart), but now I feel like I’m going back to my old love.

We have an epic trip along South Africa’s Eastern Cape coming up this month, and we’re heading to Madagascar 🇲🇬 right after! And trips to Namibia 🇳🇦 and Botswana 🇧🇼 are in the works..

Where else should we go???

  • Just a Tuesday afternoon hike because… Cape Town. 😍

This city isn’t just by the mountains — it’s built around them. Wherever you are, there’s a trail calling our name, and most of them are really accessible.

Today we took on Lion’s Head 🦁⛰️ — Cape Town’s iconic spiral hike.

✨ Distance: ~5km round trip

✨ Time: 2.5-4 hrs (we didn’t go all the way to the summit)

✨ Difficulty: Moderate — mostly a steady climb, but near the top you’ll scramble, climb ladders, and use chains. The first half is suitable for kids.

✨ Reward: Panoramic views over Table Mountain, the city, and the Atlantic that make every step worth it. 🌍🔥

⚠️ Pro tip: As stunning as it is, be mindful. Muggings have been reported, so avoid solo hikes, go during daylight, and stick to the busier times.

Cape Town really makes ordinary Tuesdays feel extraordinary. 💛

  • 🌸 Spring has officially sprung in South Africa! 🌸

September 1st marks the start of spring in South Africa, and it’s flower season in the West Cape!

From mid-August to late September, Western Cape transforms into a carpet of daisies, vygies, and gousblom in every color imaginable.

Over the weekend, we explored the West Coast National Park (1hour from Cape Town) where thousands of flower species are on full bloom along the coast. 🌼✨

The best area within the national park to visit is Postberg Nature Reserve — open only during spring and hands-down the best spot to see the blooms in full glory. 🌿💛

✨ Tips for your visit:

▫️ Go early — weekends get super busy + the morning light is magical
▫️ Bring a picnic or enjoy the food trucks (boerewors rolls and smash burgers on offer)
▫️ Keep an eye out for wildlife — we spotted wild ostriches and eland alongside the flowers 🦓🦌
▫️ Flower season isn’t just here — Ive heard that Renosterveld Reserve, Namaqualand, and Citrusdal are even more beautiful

  • Save this 2-Week Senegal Itinerary ✨🇸🇳

Senegal is one of the most stable and vibrant countries in West Africa, and makes for a great introduction to the region. The Senegalese pride themselves on the teranga, or warm hospitality in Wolof language. It’s one of the many reasons that makes Senegal so special in my eyes.

To help you explore West Africa’s most vibrant country, here’s my 2-week Senegal itinerary:

[Psst… Comment “SENEGAL” for a link to our detailed itinerary!]

Day 1–3: Dakar 🌆
Kick off in the capital with its buzzing markets, street art, and music scene. Visit the african renaissance monument for sweeping city views, and stroll along corniche ouest for coastal sunsets.

Day 4: île de gorée ⛵
Take the ferry to this unesco world heritage site. Walk pastel-colored streets, learn its powerful history at the house of slaves, and enjoy the slower island rhythm.

Day 5: Ngor & Ngor island 🌴
Just off dakar’s coast, hop a pirogue to tiny ngor island. Spend the day swimming, relaxing on the beach, and enjoying fresh seafood lunches.

Day 6-8: bandia reserve 🐘
Head inland to spot giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and monkeys on safari just an hour from dakar — an easy day trip packed with wildlife.

Day 9-11: saint-louis 🕌
Travel north to the former colonial capital. Explore colorful streets, riverside cafes, and jazz clubs in this atmospheric unesco-listed city.

Day 12-14: langue de barbarie 🐦
Wrap up with a visit to this stunning natural park near saint-louis, where the river and ocean meet. A haven for birdwatching, boat rides, and peaceful landscapes.

Would you add senegal to your bucket list? 💛

  • ✈️ My daughter has officially been to 60 countries (yes, sixty!) and she decided it was time to hand out her very own travel awards 🏆:

✨ Most Beautiful: Mexico 🇲🇽

We loved Mexico so much that we spent 4 years there! Kaleya’s favorite spots are the cenotes that look like natural swimming pools, and the mix of beaches, jungles, and ancient ruins.

✨ Most Fun: Japan 🇯🇵

Because where else can you eat in a robot restaurant, pet deers in the park, spend hours in colorful arcades, and see Mario Kart races happening on the street?

✨ Most Amazing Wildlife: Galápagos 🇪🇨

Where sea lions nap on benches, giant tortoises roam like dinosaurs, and iguanas cross the streets like pedestrians.

✨ Most Surprising: Patagonia 🇦🇷🇨🇱

She expected mountains, but not *those* mountains. Towering peaks, glowing glaciers, and landscapes that look painted. Patagonia completely blew her mind.

✨ Best Food: Singapore 🇸🇬

We go every year to see my parents and she absolutely loves hawker food — noodles, satay, and kaya toast. She 💯 believes Singapore has the best food in the world.

✨ Most Want to Go Back To: Australia 🇦🇺

From koalas and kangaroos to endless beaches and coral reefs — Australia stole her heart. She only saw a small part, and can’t wait to explore more!

✨ Most Challenging: Pakistan 🇵🇰

The intensity of the culture, the adventure of the roads, and the sheer scale of the mountains made it tough, but unforgettable.
