  • We’ve been in Cape Town for four months now… and honestly, this city has surprised us in the best way.
We visited before having kids, but we didn’t expect it to be this perfect for families who love adventure as much as we do.

Between schoolwork, beach days, and trying to keep up with life, we’ve managed to squeeze in some pretty unforgettable experiences. Here’s what’s made our Cape Town family bucket list:

⛰️Abseiling off Table Mountain – My daughter said it was one of the coolest things she’s done! A mix of fear, excitement, and the kind of confidence boost you only get when you step out of your comfort zone.

🏄‍♂️ Surfing in Muizenberg – tiny, gentle waves that are perfect for kids learning to surf. Watching our daughter stand up on her board for the first time was a core memory.

🌳 Acrobranch Constantia – tree-top obstacle courses, zip lines, wobbly bridges… basically kid heaven. And honestly, just as fun for adults.

🛷 Cool Runnings Tobogganing – we’ve gone more times than I want to admit. Fast enough to thrill the adults, safe enough for kids. 10/10 family activity.

🦓 Safari weekend – seeing lions, elephants, and giraffes up close never gets old. It’s one of those “school days” that turns into a lifelong memory.

🏕️ Glamping in the Karoo – sleeping under the stars in cozy tents, spotting wildlife, and swapping stories around a campfire.

  • ✈️ I’ve been deep in planning our own 2026 travels, and it reminded me of something I see every single year…

Most people wait until January to start booking their trips.

And by then? Prices jump because everyone is suddenly searching at the same time. 📈

But right now — this week — there are actually so many quiet little Travel Tuesday deals floating around. I spent the morning going through all the airline promos and pulled together the ones that are genuinely worth it.

If you want them, just comment DEALS and I’ll send over the list I put together.

Now that I’m a travel advisor for @foratravel, I can actually book hotels for you with perks like credits, upgrades, and special deals. Get in touch if you’d like any help! 🌍✨

  • Week 4 in Cape Town was a full one — classes, work and activities — but the best part was escaping to the Klein Karoo for a weekend in the wilderness. ✨

We drove just three hours from the city for a glamping weekend in the Elements tent at @huizen.living, surrounded by dramatic reddish cliffs and clear blue skies. 🏕️🏜️🌵

We woke up to baboons right outside our tent, antelopes drinking at the waterhole, and dassies everywhere. Days were for hikes, dips in the hot tub and playing Jenga, nights were for stargazing (with shooting stars!). 🌌🔭✨

Exactly the reset we needed after a busy week — and a reminder of how close wilderness is to Cape Town.

  • Windswept beaches stretch before us, backed by giant sand dunes, with whales breaching in the far distance, zebras and ostriches roaming freely around us — this is @morukurufamilydehoop, a modern beach lodge designed for families.

At just a 3.5-hour drive from Cape Town, the beach lodge is tucked away in the pristine De Hoop Nature Reserve, one of the best whale watching spots in South Africa. It’s perched on top of giant sand dunes, with uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean. 🐋🌊🏝️

There’s plenty to do here for active families — from hiking in the reserve’s marked trails through the fynbos, swimming in the beaches, sand boarding down the dunes, going on game drives to see the wildlife in the reserve, and seeing whales breaching just a few feet from the coast. 🥾🦓🐚

This has definitely been the best place we’ve stayed in South Africa so far and we cannot recommend it enough to families!

Windswept beaches stretch before us, backed by giant sand dunes, with whales breaching in the far distance, zebras and ostriches roaming freely around us — this is @morukurufamilydehoop, a modern beach lodge designed for families. At just a 3.5-hour drive from Cape Town, the beach lodge is tucked away in the pristine De Hoop Nature Reserve, one of the best whale watching spots in South Africa. It’s perched on top of giant sand dunes, with uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean. 🐋🌊🏝️ There’s plenty to do here for active families — from hiking in the reserve’s marked trails through the fynbos, swimming in the beaches, sand boarding down the dunes, going on game drives to see the wildlife in the reserve, and seeing whales breaching just a few feet from the coast. 🥾🦓🐚 This has definitely been the best place we’ve stayed in South Africa so far and we cannot recommend it enough to families! [hosted stay] 👋 Hi! I’m Nellie, a travel writer and adventurous mum currently spending a few months in South Africa with my family. I share all I’ve learned about digital nomad family travel here. 🌏 #travelfamily #livingabroad #worldschooling #familytravel #learningeverywhere #travelwithkids #digitalnomadfamily #familytravel #southafricawithkids #gardenroute #whalecoast #MorukuruFamilydehoop #morukurufamily #morukurubeachlodge #DeHoopNatureReserve #LuxuryLodges #SouthAfricaTravel #familylodges
