  • Over the weekend, we hiked up to Kloof Corner from downtown Cape Town and couldn’t believe the views! 🤯🏔️🌊

It was short and easy (we made it up in about 30 minutes with plenty of “look at that rock!” stops along the way), but the views at the top felt like such a reward.

From up there you can see the whole stretch of the 12 Apostles, Lion’s Head, and the Atlantic Ocean sparkling below. Honestly, it’s the kind of view you’d expect after hours of climbing, not a kid-friendly stroll. 🏔️🌳🥾

📍Kloof Corner (park at Tafelberg road and start hiking from Kloof Nek Water Treatment Plant)

I love it because it’s doable for little legs, doesn’t take up half the day, and still gives you that “wow, we’re in Cape Town” moment. It's definitely one of those hikes that reminds me why we travel with our kid: simple adventures, big memories.

  • Kids won’t remember every landmark or every passport stamp. But they’ll remember how it felt to explore the world together. 🌏

The way we laughed when we got lost, the sunrise snuggles and sunset swims, the small moments between the big ones.

Traveling with kids isn’t about them remembering every detail. It’s about building a childhood that feels like adventure, love, and togetherness—wherever we are. 🥾🏔️🌊✈️

  • I’d rather choose camping and long hikes over all-inclusive resorts. I prefer dirt under my nails, questionable street food, views that stir my soul than all-day… than staying all day by the pool and never getting out of the resort. It’s chaos, discomfort, magic — and no, you can’t order it from a poolside menu. 😉

  • Are African safaris good for kids? With the right planning, they can be one of the most magical and educational trips your family ever takes. 🐆

We’ve been on safari all over Africa before having Kaleya and we know it can be challenging bringing kids along. Here’s what you should know about going on safari with kids:

🌅 Game drives are early & late — Most safaris start at sunrise or run at sunset for the best wildlife sightings. Expect 2 hours in private reserves, but drives in national parks can stretch to 4+ hours.

🦓 Wildlife isn’t on a schedule — animals appear when they want to. Sometimes that means long stretches of waiting, so patience is key (and snacks help!).

🏜️Choose family-friendly guides — The right ranger can turn a lion sighting into a captivating story your child will remember forever.

🍼 Age limits are common — Many lodges require kids to be 6+ for game drives, so check before booking.

📚Keep little ones busy — Bring safari-themed activity books, kid-sized binoculars, and plenty of snacks to keep spirits high between sightings.

❄️Pack layers — Even in the warmest months, dawn and dusk can be surprisingly cold. Think jackets, hats, and a cozy blanket for the drive.
